1. Use Images
Images help draw the readers eye to different parts of your profile. Images can also showcase your product offering, or portfolio pieces.
- Hire a professional photographer to take your headshots.
- Update your profile header image.
2. Job Position Details
Your profile will be read by potential clients or people interested in your products or services. Adding details to each of your positions will allow readers to get a better idea of your experience.
3. Write a Strong Summary (aka Bio)
Your summary is the first thing that people will see, and likely read, when they come to your profile. Use your summary as a place to show your personality, and really engage the user on what you do.
- Start with a catchy opening statement
- Include search terms in your summary
- Don’t be afraid to show personality
- Add context to your career story
- Don’t go overboard with special characters
5. Create an Eye-Catching Headline
Your headline does not have to be your job title and company. Use the space to showcase your specialty, value proposition, or your “so what?”. The more specific you can be about what differentiates you from the competition, the better.

Collect, Select & Invite 2nd & 3rd Contacts
The first step to generating leads is to find the contacts that you want to pitch your business to. The LinkedHelper chrome extension has this as one of the options allowing you to find contacts and automatically invite them to connect.
- Search for contacts that you want to connect with
- Collect as many contacts as you want, we’d recommend 150
- Invite contacts to connect!
LinkedHelper is designed to collect contacts from the results of a LinkedIn search. If you are not on a search results page when you click collect, the tool will ask you which search page you would like to collect from.
Use the filter on the search page to search for specific roles, titles, companies, locations, and more.
The LinkedIn search is more sophisticated than you might think, try these searches for yourself:
owner AND (Calgary OR Airdrie)
This simple search will show you all contacts that are owners and are located within Calgary or Airdrie.
(CFO OR Finance OR Accountant) AND Calgary AND NOT (Shaw Or Telus)
This search a lot more complex, it will find all contacts with CFO, Finance, or Accountant in their headline. Contacts will be further filtered to just Calgary. We then decided to exclude Shaw and Telus from the results.
Message to Recently Added Connections
The next step to generating leads is to reach out to all of the people that have recently accepted your connection request. The LinkedHelper chrome extension has this as one of the options allowing you to automatically follow up with recently added connections.
- Use the LinkedHelper template variables in your messages.
- Try to make the message sound authentic
- Remember the three R’s (Relevance, Reward, Request)
It is important that your message is relevant to the reader. Use their name, company, and position to help engage them. Make sure to tell them how they will benefit from a relationship with you. Lastly, you want to make your request for an introduction / discovery call.
